President of Korea Amateur Baduk Association
Kun Ho, CHO
Distinguished guests,
Players and executives from home and aborad.
I would like to express my warmest welcome to all of you.
As you all may know, Korea Amateur Baduk Association, KABA, has represented Korean amateur Baduk circles since its inception on November 24, 2005. On May 16, 2006, KABA became an official member of Korean Sports Association, which heralded a sport-Baduk era.
Today's tournament signals an outset of Korean Baduk as a sport. Here we all are witnessing a historical moment of Korean Baduk.
For this tournament, players from 70 countries on five continents have been invited. Despite differences in our languages and cultures, we are united as one with the common denominator, baduk. For this reason, this venue can be said, "a little global village without borders."
Jeonju City, Jeolla North Province where we are holding this tournament has been considered "Mecca of Baduk", a city of cherishing the traditional origin of Baduk. Jeonju City is also the hometown of LEE Chang-ho, and is one of Korea's most famous art and culture cities.
I sincerely hope that during this Baduk tournament, all participants have friendly manuel talks and players do their best for the good results.
Lastly, I very much appreciate the unwaivering supports from Prime Minister HAN Myong-suk, Minister KIM Myong-gon of Culture and Tourism, Mayor SONG Ha-jin of Jeonju City and all supporters.
Mayor of Jeonju City
Ha-jin, SONG
I celebrate sincerely the 1st KPMC Cup International Amateur Baduk Championship harmonizing Baduk, culture and international participants. I am grateful to you for visiting Jeonju, the most Korean city.
Jeonju, national champion LEE Chang-ho's hometown, is the center of Korean Baduk. It establishes numerous Baduk lectures for young players and nationally embraces much Baduk population. Jeonju has a passion for Baduk. It is meaningful that International Amateur Baduk Championship and Jeonju Baduk Festival are held here at the same time. I hope this festival plays a leading role for the Korean Baduk future.
Baduk contains oriental philosophy and culture and renews the value of oriental culture. Furthermore, Baduk develops internationally and emphasizes roles of Orient.
I am positive that Korean Baduk is in the lead of international Baduk world. In this current, this Baduk festival settles a foundation of Baduk's future.
Autumn is the time to harvest fruition during a year. For this reason, autumn is fertile and beautiful. Jeonju displays the most Korean autumn.
Based on one thousand years of history, Jeonju is growing as a traditional and cultural city. I wish to make one thousand years' Baduk history with you. One week of Baduk's world and festival will advance Baduk internationally. Once again, I warmly welcome you. Thank you.
Minister of Culture and Tourism

It is a great honor to hold the 1st Prime Minister Cup International Amateur Baduk Championship in Jeonju where LEE Chang-ho was born. I heartily welcome players from all over the world.
Jeonju is the most Korean city preserving traditional culture. In Jeonju, the 8th Lee Chang-ho Cup Amateur Baduk Tournament is held. With International Baduk festival, Jeonju laid the foundation stone for being an international Baduk mecca.
Jeonju, a core of cultivation culture, is the province of food and charm. In autumn, the sky in this region is clear, high, and blue.
By completing this festival successfully, I'm longing to hold International Baduk festival annually here, in Jeonju.
During the festival, I hope all Baduk players experience Jeonju city and have beautiful memories.
Wishing for continual development for Baduk players,
